Come back on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for Holiday Hoopla, a free, family-friendly celebration where you can sip hot chocolate, and create your own gifts and decorations. RSVP is appreciated (614-724-2550 or FRC@columbus.gov) but not required.

Columbus Recreation and Parks Earns Five OPRA Awards — Thanks to You

Columbus Recreation and Parks Department has been recognized with five Ohio Parks and Recreation Association Awards of Excellence [ https://www.opraonline.org/opra/Awards_of_Excellence.asp?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]—more than any other agency this year. And while the awards are exciting, they’re really a testament to something bigger: the power of residents who show up, participate and believe in what parks can do for a community. The winning entries were:

Kilbourne Run Sports Park Moves Into the Next Phase

Kilbourne Run Sports Park [ https://columbusrecparks.com/connect/about/capital-improvement-projects/kilbourne-run-sports-park/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] is taking shape as one of Columbus’ premier sports destinations. The first phase wrapped in October with all six full-sized turf fields installed, and two have already hosted tournament play in a successful trial run! Rental permits for 2026 are now open.

There’s more to come! Construction on the championship stadium is underway. The four surrounding grass fields on the west side of the park have been seeded and will be available for rental in fall 2026. Key amenities are also coming together. Parking lots, walking paths and both new playgrounds are now installed. The roundabout at Westerville Road and the entry drive to the park are anticipated to open by the end of December.

Kilbourne Run is more than a project—it’s a major investment in community, sports access and economic impact. More progress is on the way!
