A Season of Sustainability Thanks

Header4.2

As we embrace the spirit of gratitude this holiday season, we find ourselves reflecting on the countless reasons we have to be thankful in our vibrant community. From new clean energy projects, food waste initiatives and increased recycling, equity-focused green jobs training, bike planning, tree plantings and more, we have so much to be proud of as we move toward our Climate Action Plan goals and increase environmental justice. None of this work is possible without you - our residents - and your support. Thank you for being part of Sustainable Columbus!

Clean Energy Columbus Saves $19 Million

Clean Energy Columbus is ending 2023 strong. The program is delivering on 100% clean energy and big cost savings for residents. Clean Energy Columbus has provided over $19 million in savings to Columbus residents this year. It is currently providing a savings of about $25 per bill. There are over 190,000 households participating in the program - by far the largest aggregation in Ohio. This shows Columbus' commitment to positively impacting the environment and adopting clean energy. Since the program began in 2021, residents have used over 4 billion kWh of clean energy. That is equal to emissions from approximately 406,000 gasoline-powered cars driven for a year. Reuse Convenience Center Now Open!

The City has opened one of two Waste and Reuse Convenience Centers to make it easier for residents to drop off trash, bulk items, recyclables, food and yard waste materials, and hard to dispose of items. The Centers are a no-cost service providing Columbus residents with options to sustainably dispose of, reuse and recycle many items. The service supports the city’s Climate Action Plan goals to reduce waste and divert it from the local landfill and support the circular economy and green jobs. Learn more [ https://new.columbus.gov/files/sharedassets/city/v/1/services/convenience-center-info-sheet-final.pdf?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] about what’s accepted and the hours of operation so you can participate today!_ _

‘Cash In on Clean Energy Tour’ Comes to Columbus

Hosted by America Is All In, the Cash In on Clean Energy Tour made its 3rd stop in Columbus this past October to host an expert-led workshop for business, government and non-profit community leaders to learn how to utilize the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). White House Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy headlined the event and met with local leaders at IMPACT Community Action in advance for a conversation on climate action and environmental justice and received a tour of IMPACT. There were over 100 attendees from across the state at the workshop, including our favorite nut Brutus Buckeye!
