Hooked on Fishing: Don’t Miss Spring Rainbow Trout Stockings

Spring is the perfect time to grab your fishing pole and head to Columbus park ponds for some exciting trout fishing! As part of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) rainbow trout stocking program [ http://ohiodnr.gov/buy-and-apply/hunting-fishing-boating/fishing-resources/trout-stockings?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ], thousands of rainbow trout will be stocked in our ponds this season, giving anglers of all ages a chance to enjoy the thrill of catching these vibrant fish. But don’t wait too long—rainbow trout can’t survive in warmer temperatures so now’s your chance to reel them in!

Mark your calendar for a special free fishing event at Westgate Park on March 28, from 2-4 p.m. Plus, check out these upcoming stocking dates: Friday, March 28, at Franklin, Goodale, Linden, Schiller and Westgate parks; Monday, April 14, at Franklin, Linden and Westgate parks; Friday, April 18, at Antrim Park; and Wednesday, April 23, at Goodale, Krumm and Schiller parks.

A few pro tips: Keep trips short for kids, bring plenty of water and take all lines, bait and trash with you. Late Night Hoops: More Than Just Basketball

Late Night Hoops isn’t just a game—it’s a movement! This new free program offers inner-city youth ages 13-18 a safe, engaging space during critical evening hours, blending the excitement of basketball with mentorship, career resources and personal growth opportunities. By providing a structured environment, Late Night Hoops helps reduce risky behaviors, foster positive relationships with trusted adults and equip participants with valuable life skills.

The spring 2025 session takes place March 25-May 22. Join us on Tuesdays from 6-11 p.m. at Marion Franklin Community Center, 2801 Lockbourne Road, 43207, and Thursdays from 6-11 p.m. at Milo Grogan Community Center, 862 E. 2nd Ave., 43201. Building for Our Future
Smarter Buildings, Greener Future

Columbus Recreation and Parks is making big strides in energy conservation, helping the City reach its goal of reducing its carbon footprint by 40 percent by 2030. One major improvement? Niagara, our Building Automation System (BAS), which helps manage energy use in our facilities more efficiently.

With Niagara, we can remotely control temperatures in buildings, reducing energy waste while keeping spaces comfortable. The system also detects maintenance issues early, ensuring quick fixes and fewer disruptions.

So far, 31 facilities are online, with more coming soon. These upgrades help protect the environment and keep operating costs low—so we can continue investing in the parks, programs and services you love!
