In honor of Black History month, we recognize how climate change and its effects are disproportionately impacting communities of color. The City of Columbus is more committed than ever to ensuring all its residents have a safe and healthy environment now and into the future. Part of being all in includes Columbus’ commitment to environmental justice to support every community and neighborhood in the city. Columbus remains committed to the goals of the Paris Agreement and doing what’s necessary to limit global temperatures rising.

Columbus Youth Climate Action Fund: Applications Open!

Applications are open for the Columbus Youth Climate Action Fund micro grants [ https://www.columbus.gov/Government/Mayors-Office/Sustainable-Columbus/Columbus-Youth-Climate-Action?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]! Columbus once again received funding from the Bloomberg Foundation to grant youth aged 15-24 up to $5,000 each for projects addressing climate change, environmental justice and community engagement. This is the second year for this grant program which received $100,000 to empower the next generation of climate leaders while meeting our Columbus Climate Action Plan goals. Creating a healthy, safe Columbus now and into the future remains a top priority, and Sustainable Columbus recently celebrated 10 youth-led climate projects that opened the door for this year’s applicants.

Green Fund Solar Projects Underway

In 2023 the City of Columbus contributed $7 million to help create and launch the Columbus Region Green Fund [ https://www.crgreenfund.org/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]. The Green Fund seeks to accelerate clean energy in the Columbus Region while taking an equitable approach by prioritizing solar projects for nonprofits, affordable housing, and low-to-moderate-income businesses. Today multiple projects are in process and solar installation at Corban Commons Senior Living – where the announcement of the creation of the Green Fund took place - is underway!

*Title:* Climate Action Plan Implementation Manager

*About Me: *As the Climate Action Plan Implementation Manager for the City of Columbus, I drive progress toward strategies in the Columbus Climate Action Plan. I earned my undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University in Natural Resource Management, and continued my education by earning a master’s degree in Environmental Sustainability at Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Before joining Sustainable Columbus, I led the team in Richmond, Indiana creating the city’s first Climate Action Plan. I see climate action and sustainability as responsible governance and I’m keen on the city’s role in providing wellbeing for its residents now and into the future. Away from work, I enjoy puzzles, history podcasts, hiking, cooking, and spending time with my five-year-old cat, Ginkgo.
