Leave the Leaves This Fall

Are you interested in supporting pollinators this fall? One of the best things you can do to help pollinators as it gets colder is to give them winter cover. By leaving the leaves and standing dead plants, you provide food and shelter to butterflies, bees, moths and more! While monarchs migrate south for the winter, most butterflies and moths spend winter as an egg, caterpillar, chrysalis or adult, and they hide in the leaves to emerge in spring. Leaves also protect queen bumble bees, that burrow into the soil and hibernate.

If you don’t want to leave the leaves on your grass, try to chop the leaves with the lawnmower. You can also use the leaves as mulch by raking them into your landscaping beds, or place them in shaded areas where grass doesn’t grow well. You can also pile the leaves up and add some sticks on top to prevent the leaves from blowing back into the grass on blustery days. Enjoy Fine Art at the Priscilla R. Tyson Cultural Arts Center

Enjoy beautiful, dynamic and colorfully saturated paintings at the Priscilla R. Tyson Cultural Arts Center's latest art exhibition, “A Collide of Scope.” Exhibition Curator James Terrell seeks to contemplate and document humanity and spirituality in these singularly turbulent times by creating a kaleidoscope of illusions that tell a host of stories. His paintings address the anxieties of modern life we all encounter despite race, color or creed. Be the first to see this vibrant display of art during the opening reception on Friday, Nov. 17, from 6-8 p.m. This free event will offer complimentary food and drinks.
